Jamaican musician Zuggu Dan born as Kevin Nicholas Patterson on September 23, 1982, hails from the beautiful parish of Portland. The name “Zuggu Dan” was given to him at the age of nine by his late cousin, who was attempting to create an original African footballer name because football played a major role in their lives from a tender age.
Growing up in Ceanwood District Hope Bay, Zuggu Dan always considered music for him to be inborn. However, his official introduction to music was in church, where he received his first guitar from a church member at age 15. Later on, with the support of his mother, he decided to leave Portland to pursue his musical ambitions by enrolling in Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. Meanwhile, attending Edna Manley College Zuggu Dan got the chance to tour. He began his first tour as a guitarist and vocalist for Romain Virgo. That opportunity opened the door for him to tour with the likes of Jah Cure, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, Pablo Moses, Jimmy Cliff, and he accompanied Chronixx on his first-ever European tour. Also, as a former guitarist and vocalist for the Grammy Nominated Recording artiste Protoje’s Indiggnation Band he has undeniable graced some on the most notable stages in Jamaica and around the world including; Reggae Sumfest, Coachella, Rototom Sunsplash, Glastonbury, just to name a few.
Highly motivated to provide for his vibrant daughter Zuri Dan Patterson in the year of 2018, Zuggu Dan teamed up with Irie Yute Records founder Phillip McFarlane to kick-off his solo career. McFarlane produced Zuggu Dan’s first Roots Reggae single dubbed, “Jungle”. He recently released his second single, “Bush Master” which has caught the attention of many including Seani B of BBC Radio 1Xtra who showcased the song on his platform, “Seani B Spotlights”. Currently, he is working on his album which is set to be released in 2021, Zuggu Dan aims to provide an insight into his roots, reality, and culture through his music and has much more to come.
